Bridging the Gap

Hello! Hope all my readers and followers have been coping well in my time of abandonment. But don't worry...i'm here now.

Fashion doesn't wait for anyone. It is a living, progressive being that is ever evolving. Fortunately, the latest "loveurLAbels" model was caught up with fashion trends when I spotted her. It is my pleasure to introduce you to the gorgeous Mindy...

I met Mindy at a party through a mutual friend. She is fun, bubbly, friendly.....but mostly fun. After talking to her, with the help of a few drinks, me and Mindy became quick friends. Her outfit struck me as I observed it and made me think of a few runway ensembles I have seen lately. It was edgy and modern, yet minimal and casual in the styling. The pieces and the colors  reminded me of the Narciso Rodriguez spring 2010 show, but the silhouette resembled that of Balmain's structured jackets and fitted pants.

The gray top bearing midriff is a great piece for the summer. It has the shape and silhouette of a spring 2010 piece, yet contains a featured trend color for fall 2010, bridging the gap between the two fashion seasons. Gray is seen all over in fall 2010 runways such as Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, and Yigal Azrouel. Also, Pantone featured color 14-1107, Oyster  Gray, as one of the ten featured fall 2010 colors in their color report.

To finish of the outfit, Mindy paired it with a great set of white shoes and wore an understated silver necklace.

You can find Mindy's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Jacket: Dior Homme, Celine, Banana Republic, H&M, Billabong
Top: Alexander Wang, LF Stores, American Apparel
Jeans: Vince, J-Brand, Genetic Denim, Mango, Guess, JC Penny
Shoes: Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Jessica Simpson
Necklace: Finn, Ileana Makri, Macy's

A huge thank you to Mindy for inspiring me to create this post. You looked amazing, in-fashion, and something tells me that you will always be in style. As for everyone else, watch out. I may have been on a hiatus for a while, but my eyes remain vigilant. Always look your best. You never know who might be watching...

Animal Instincts

Greetings to all of you lovely people. Yes I know it’s been a while, and yes, I know every time it’s been a while I mention it, so…. Lets just say it’s been one heck of a quarter.

Spring break is upon us and I hope all of you are enjoying it to the fullest. Also, happy Easter to all. May you have a wonderful Easter weekend. I spent my Easter weekend in Palm Springs working at the fashion show for the very talented Sandra Garratt’s clothing line DUGWEAR. It’s an amazing clothing line, so…. Google it and check it out.

As for an update in trend spotting…

My good friend Austin Michaels, creator of The Man’s LA, happened to stop by my apartment. With him was his friend from out of town, wearing a wonderful outfit for their night out on the town.

Clarkia was wearing a dress that has a lot of spring 2010 inspiration. The reptilian/nouveau prints are trends seen in many of the spring shows, including Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Versace, Zac Posen, and Diane Von Furstenberg. The length of the dress is also a length that is repeated often in the spring season. What's great about Clarkia's dress is that it contains the trend, but it didn't cost as much as a high end designer dress. This goes to show that anyone on any budget can dress amazing everyday.

Her gold sandals elevate the look by helping to bring out the subtle warm colors in the dress. Another thing that was great was the jacket.

Why is the jacket so great? Well, Clarkia's jacket displays one of Pantone's spring 2010 chosen trend colors, Amparo Blue.

Amparo Blue
PANTONE 18-3945
C/M/Y/K 81 / 47 / 0 / 0
GOE 69-1-6C

The whole outfit is accented with the the hair down, subtle make-up and a marc by marc jacobs clutch in hand to bring out more of the warm colors in the dress. Overall, a great look for a great night, worn by a great person.

You can find Clarkia's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Dress: Alexander McQueen, BCBG, Macy's, TJ Maxx
Jacket: Burbery, Via Spiga, Hazel, Target
Sandals: Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Steve Madden, Target
Clutch: Carlos Falchi, Marc by Marc Jacobs,  Shi by Journeys

A very special thank you to Clarkia for modeling for "love ur LAbels." Everyone should take note of this post and how to style yourself without bankrupting yourself. Many people really have style in their blood and can turn it on anytime. And for those of you who don't..... I'll be here ;)

Bitter Time in Fashion....

Good day everyone! It's been a while since my last post! I think the reason is that many people have a bit of difficulty transitioning from Fall season to the Spring. So, how much catching up do I have?...

I assume that everyone out there had the best Valentine's day imaginable! And if you didn't, I'll personally make up for it ;) What else have I missed?..... Oh, happy belated groundhog day..... and happy birthday to Susan B Anthony (random).

On a more serious note, the fashion world as a whole is seeing very bitter days with the passing of Alexander McQueen. McQueen was influential, widely-loved, and arguably the most innovative designer of our time. He was truly inspirational to many people, including myself. Alexander McQueen..... we will miss you dearly. But the reality of life is that we must move on and grow.... and the reality of his clothing line is that after his passing, sales skyrocketed about 1400%!

(Insert really good transition)

I found the newest "love ur LAbels" model. Where you ask? Sitting next to me in class! Yes! We happened to be taking our midterms... and I may have caused a distraction when asking her about her outfit... whoops!

Everyone, meet Alexis....

I know right? Gorgeous. All my models are gorgeous. As you all know, we are now officially experiencing the Spring fashion season. One dominant trend this season is breezy, flowy and free-formed pieces. When Alexis got up to turn in her completed midterm, the flow of her Emma and Sam top really caught my eye. It also helps that every other piece in her outfit truly compliments the whole desired look. The pairing with black skinny jeans gives us an exceptional representation of Hard Vs. Soft. Neutrals with a splash of color... I love it. What surprised me was her boots.

These boots are Vintage CAT boots.... you know, the construction equipment company. Amazing! This could have gone totally wrong, yet Alexis made it work with the whole ensemble.
The Hermes Leather Birkin is amazing, especially accented with the wayfarers and McQueen scarf. Her jewelry includes pieces from Swatch, Alexander McQueen, Chrome Hearts and a few vintage pieces. Collectively, a successful ensemble for an edgy person caught in the storm of Spring florals....

You can find Alexis' look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Top: LF Stores, Calvin Klein, Alice+Olivia, Neiman Marcus
Jeans: J Brand, Old Navy, Diesel, Levi's
Watch: Swatch, Citizen, Movado, Rolex
Necklace: Chrome Hearts, JCPenny, Zales, Saks Fifth Avenue
Bracelets: Marc Jacobs, Stephen Webster
Purse: Hermes, New York & Company, Coach
Boots: Diesel, Steve Madden, Charles David
Rings: Alexander McQueen, Dior, Vivienne Westwood, King Baby
Scarf: Alexander McQueen, Betsey Johnson, Ed Hardy
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban, Oakley, Gucci, Tom Ford, Ilori

A big thanks to Alexis for modeling for me during the middle of class ;) Oh, so Alexis told me that she just got her wisdom teeth removed... can you tell? Because I can't! Way to look amazing under stressful conditions Alexis. Keep the impeccable style going, which won't be hard for you. Thanks again! To everyone else, remember, were not in Kansas Fall anymore....

Color of the Year!

Salutations to all of you lovely readers. I commend your return to "love ur LAbels," and therefore, i will continue to grant you new updates for your viewing pleasure.

So just FYI, this post is about a week past due. I've been so swamped with work that I haven't had time to breathe. Not breathing has caused an oxygen deficiency in my brain, leading to my inability to post a new update, even though I found my new model a week ago. But enough about my nutritional deficiencies, lets talk about my new model!

If you know me well, or even if you don't, you're probably aware of the frequency at which I visit a certain coffee establishment. For some reason, my work gets completed a lot quicker when done whilst sipping on a venti americano ;). As I was midway through my 30 pages of typed homework (and ready to ask someone for some spare rope), I see a blue bird fly into my surrounding forest full of crows...

Everyone, meet Faith. Faith is one of the lovely workers at my usual destination for java. This charming barista happened to walk in on her day off and caught my eye. Everyone that was there (including me) was wearing blacks, browns, forest greens.... all dark colors. Faith offered to us a refreshing turquoise that was pleasing to the eye, and also a hot color for the Spring fashion season. Turquoise is back as one of the upcoming seasons colors to wear. Actually, turquoise was named Pantone's 2010 color of the year. Of course, designers may not exactly adhere to this hue for their collections, but it does influence their color schemes.

Faith got her cool colored dress from a surprising place.... her home. Her dress was designed and sewn by her mother. This surprised me, as it did have retail appeal. Plus, her mother's choice of color couldn't have been better. The dress is tied on the waist with a black scarf. Similar colored garments were seen in spring '10 collections of Derek Lam, Versace and Proenza Schouler. The silhouette is not really one that is seen on the Spring runways, but is associated more with the fading Fall '09. Since it's still a bit cold out, but the new fashion season is starting, it made sense to me to wear a fall garment with a hot spring color.... just to be ahead of the curve. Props to you Faith.

Faith also shows us two other colors that are in this season... black and white. Well, it's a no brainer that black and white are always on the scene to some degree, but a white is one of the featured colors of Spring. Faith features this color with her vintage purse. Another part of the outfit that's vintage is her boots. Boots are not a trend for spring, but since we are straddling the fence between the seasons, i'll let it slide ;). Faith finishes her relaxed look with her wavy hair relaxed on her shoulder. This style, paired with her cool colored dress is a winning combination for a relaxing day off.

When sitting and talking to Faith, I found out about her unusual fashion philosophy. "I like to be outdated," she told me. She justified that when dressing out of date, it gives you a look of originality. I really respected this idea. This showed me that when she does get dressed, it's not just a random bunch of clothes, but rather a well thought out idea. Just like everything else in life, all actions should be well thought of before executing.

You can find Faith's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions....

Dress: BCBG, Macy's, JCPenny
Scarf: American Apparel, Target
Boots: Charles David, Aldo, Nine West
Purse: Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Kooba

Well this concludes my first post that's transitioning towards the Spring season. Thank you so much to Faith, the latest "love ur LAbels" model for lending me your time... and a few pics ;). Keep on being original and keep on being gorgeous. As for the rest of you viewers, originality is key. Take the new trends and make them your own. Do this, and my fashion GPS will point me in your direction. I just hope I remember my camera...

Im Back...

Hello all! Hope all of you lovely people out there experienced an extremely blessed holiday season. Unfortunately, it's back to the grind of daily life for us. But not to worry, at least I'm here to bring you are newest "love ur LAbels" model.
It was the first day back to classes (have to admit, I was excited to be back) and I sat down at the front of the class like the dork that I am. In walks in a lovely classmate wearing a curious, unusual outfit.

Chava's outfit immediately put images in my head of Rick Owens Fall '09 runway... but with a bit more black. The skirt is truly the statement piece. It has a futuristic, space age look to it, but retains a simple silhouette. You know how I love fashion risks... and she wore this to class (get it girl).
One reason I love this outfit is that it looks runway fresh, yet some pieces of the look are from freelance designers at a local boutique she found among her travels. The skirt and necklace are from said boutique. Also, her Stella McCartney shoes are pretty awesome and compliment the outfit very well. The whole look is topped with a slightly high ponytail, giving a fierce and powerful look. The standards are slowly being raised to be featured here. I'm looking for trends, but risks will really catch my eye.

Isn't she gorgeous?

You can find Chava's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Top: Kiki Riki, Ann Taylor, Michael Stars
Skirt: LnA, Victoria's Secret, Marc Jacobs
Necklace: Express, Banana Republic, Malene Birger
Sunglasses: Polo Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Stella McCartney, Neiman Marcus, Nine West
Tights: DKNY, everywhere
Watch: Dooney and Bourke, Dolce and Gabbana

I am truly blessed to be back in Los Angeles, my oasis in a life full of desert sand. I'm blessed to be surrounded with people that have an understanding of personal style and how to push the boundaries of the mundane.
A special thank you to Chava, our gorgeous model for being gracious enough to lend me her time to contribute to "love ur LAbels." Someday, I'm going to get maced in the eyes for asking someone for their picture, I just know it. That would be a little funny, once I get past the searing pain of course :)
