Modern Vintage

Hello again and happy holidays to all of my followers and viewers. Today was a special day in LA. It happened to rain, and if you know me well, you know that I love the rain! So I arrived just in time to my first class, only to see that half the class was running late. Ten minutes later, in walks in one of my good friends, and our newest love ur Labels model.

Eurie is also a fashion design major. She is always wearing an outfit containing one or more amazing vintage pieces. Today was no exception. Eurie displays for us how trends can turn around and become popular again. I’m talking specifically about the vibrant red jacket that she is wearing. We all know that the masculine silhouetted jacket was all over the fashion scene this season. Eurie is donning a vintage Christian Dior Red Jacket, belted at the waist. The broad shouldered look is well paired with a pair of slimming tights. She also accessorized well with bracelets and fingerless gloves (how Lagerfeld of you...). But the statement piece of the ensemble would definitely  have to be the deadly looking shoes. They seriously look more like a weapon than a shoe, and that excites me. Style should push the boundaries of the norm, and Eurie is pushing the envelope very much so.

You can find Eurie's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Jacket- Max Mara, Giorgio Armani, Urban Outfitters
Belt- The Limited, Nordstrom, Express
Leggings- Forever 21, everywhere...
Socks- American Apparel, Target
Shoes- LF Stores
Gloves- Urban Outfitters, Barney's New York
Bracelets- Marc Jacobs, Kitson, Kenneth Jay Lane

I definitely had fun taking pictures of Eurie, and from the looks of it, she had fun too. This isn't the first time I've seen her dressing stylish. It shows that she really thinks about her outfit everyday before she steps out of the door, and I am thankful for that. Thank you for being our model for this post. Please don't stop being chic Eurie.

And to everyone else out there, remember to be thoughtful in the way you dress. I will be leaving LA for the holidays, but that doesn't mean you can slack. I'll still be judging everyone's outfits as I see them and I don't leave for another week or so.... put in the effort, and i'll make it worth your while...

Hard Vs. Soft

Hello everyone. Hope all is well and the holiday season is treating everyone well. So, my next model is another fellow student of mine (it seems like this blog is turning into the FIDM show). We had our last day of speaking class this week. When she got up to do her speech, I couldn't listen to her speak, because I was too focused on her outfit. When class was over, I stalked her out to the main lobby to talk to her about her garb. What caught my attention was her monochromatic look going on. You don't see too many people nowadays doing the whole color matching thing, and usually when they do, it looks like a train wreck. That is why I snapped a picture of Van in her outfit.

She is showing us how to match brown pieces together harmoniously. The matching trend was most prevalent in fall runway shows of Salvatore Ferragamo, Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli, and Fendi. But the biggest thing I like about this outfit was the play on hard vs. soft. The unlikely combination of a flowy dress with a hard edge leather jacket marries seamlessly. Flowy looks were seen in fall runways such as Donna Karan. The edgy leather looks were displayed in runways such as Balmain, Phi, and Hermes. This is an excellent outfit to go to class to. Another thing I admire about Van (other than how pretty she is) is that her dress and jacket are not even designer, yet she constructed an outfit that looks very designer.
Van's accessories are a lot more subtle than i'm used to seeing. She is wearing a small pendant necklace and a bracelet with a key on it. Kind of reminds me of Tiffany & Co. Key charms.Very cute.

You can find Van's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Jacket- Hermes, Gucci, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom,... Everywhere this season
Dress- Macy's, Forever 21,
Purse- Louis Vuitton
Bracelet- Tiffany & Co.

Thanks a bunch to Van for being the model for this post. Hope you go an A+ on your speech ;). Thank you to my followers and viewers for keeping me motivated to keep on stalking random people and taking pictures of them.
So I encourage all of you to put time into your outfits. Make sure the hair compliments the top compliments the bottom compliments the shoes... you get the point. And don't worry... if your wearing a trend, I will find you... and take your pic...

Fall Trends-Volume and Lace

...So, just to let you all know, I was dead tired this morning. Two classes, unfinished sketches, 3 hours of sleep... not a good combo. Surprisingly though, I saw an outfit that was aesthetically pleasing and made my day a lot better.

Alexandra is a fellow student at FIDM and is in my industry
sewing class.
Whenever I look back from where I sit, I tend to always see Alexandra wearing a well thought out ensemble. Today was no exception.
What really drew me to her outfit was the dress. As we all know, voluminous silhouettes have been extremely hot this season. Many designers, such as Valentino and D&G, have created fall looks with exaggerated volume (especially in the shoulders). Alexandra's dress is an example of a wearable version of this fall trend, since the shoulder volume is subtle. Her leggings also drew me in, resembling the Bally lace leggings for Fall '09.
Now on to her accessories. Alexandra's necklace resembles the Chanel layered necklaces. Her earrings are Betsy Johnson studded flowers and she is wearing a black stone ring.
As you can see, the hair tied back is present in this photo, just like in my last post. Tied back hair, paired with the popping red lips works very well with the whole look.

You can find Alexandra's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Dress- Barney's New York, Express, BCBG, H&M, Forever 21
Leggings- Bally, Ann Ferriday, Kova & T, Mango
Necklace- Chanel, David Yurman, JuicyCouture, Express
Earrings- Betsey Johnson, David Yurman, Kate Spade, Juicy Couture
Ring- David Yurman, Barney's New York, Forever 21
Flats- Everywhere...

Thank you to Alexandra for being our fabulous model for this post. A message to all... stay fabulous, stay fashionable and always be ready for a photo op...

Our First Fashionista

Hello All! Great news... we here at love ur LAbels (that means me) have found our first fashionista for featuring on this website.

I found Jenny outside of the Standard Oil Building in downtown L.A. Her style on this day has a slight edge, but very wearable. In my opinion, an ideal outfit for a tie-your-hair-back casual day. So, let's get to it... the break down of her outfit...

The foundation of Jenny's outfit is a Michael Stars golden Top and black tights. Above her top is black Elie Tahari Jacket. Accessorizing her outfit are items in black (my favorite color!) Black leather ankle boots, black framed Dior sunglasses, black beaded necklace and black handbag with gold details.

All in all, a successful head-to-toe look. It makes me happy when people dress fashionably on casual days. Yay!

You can find Jenny's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Top- Michael Stars, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom
Jacket- Express, BCBG, Bloomingdale's,
Ankle Boots- Nine West, Macy's, Bloomingdale's
Sunglasses- Dior, Sunglass Hut
Handbag- Balenciaga
Necklace- Forever 21, Aldo Accessories, Macy's, Nordstrom
Tights- Umm... Everywhere...

A special thank you to our first "love ur LAbels" model, Jenny, you have been fabulous. Congratulations to you for being our first found fashionista.

Once again people, we are looking for head-to-toe outfits. An amazing pair of Monolos on their own will not cut it. Put in the effort to look amazing. You never know who will be watching...

Just fyi, basically I'm looking for head-to-toe "looks." If the outfit doesn't start with the hair and end with the shoes, I won't give a second look. Impress me people!

Welcome All To My Grand Opening!

I welcome you all to your one stop for fashion, trends and where to find them! My goal here is to find people, such as yourselves, wearing current trends or any trends I personally forecast for the upcoming seasons. I may find you in the most random of places...maybe the coffee shop....the mall....randomly walking....who knows were i'll be. Then I will put your picture up on this site so everyone can see what fashionistas should look like!

So now, a little bit about me. My name is Wes and a currently reside in Los Angeles. Fashion is in my blood! I have been sewing since the tender age of 6! I began freelance fashion design at about the age of 15, helping me learn and develop my skills in custom fitting, construction, design, client relations and hand-made details. Currently, I continue to freelance and attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, as a fashion design major of course.

A message to all of you now! I am now officially on the prowl! On the look out for head-to-toe ensembles that look fresh off the runway. Don't be alarmed if I approach you and ask to take a picture of you. I mean after all of that effort into putting together a whole fashion look, it feels good to be recognized...

(BTW...don't be fooled by random people with cameras. I will have a release form for you to sign and a business card with the websites name on it. If someone approaches you and doesn't have that stuff....it's not me...)
