Color of the Year!

Salutations to all of you lovely readers. I commend your return to "love ur LAbels," and therefore, i will continue to grant you new updates for your viewing pleasure.

So just FYI, this post is about a week past due. I've been so swamped with work that I haven't had time to breathe. Not breathing has caused an oxygen deficiency in my brain, leading to my inability to post a new update, even though I found my new model a week ago. But enough about my nutritional deficiencies, lets talk about my new model!

If you know me well, or even if you don't, you're probably aware of the frequency at which I visit a certain coffee establishment. For some reason, my work gets completed a lot quicker when done whilst sipping on a venti americano ;). As I was midway through my 30 pages of typed homework (and ready to ask someone for some spare rope), I see a blue bird fly into my surrounding forest full of crows...

Everyone, meet Faith. Faith is one of the lovely workers at my usual destination for java. This charming barista happened to walk in on her day off and caught my eye. Everyone that was there (including me) was wearing blacks, browns, forest greens.... all dark colors. Faith offered to us a refreshing turquoise that was pleasing to the eye, and also a hot color for the Spring fashion season. Turquoise is back as one of the upcoming seasons colors to wear. Actually, turquoise was named Pantone's 2010 color of the year. Of course, designers may not exactly adhere to this hue for their collections, but it does influence their color schemes.
Faith got her cool colored dress from a surprising place.... her home. Her dress was designed and sewn by her mother. This surprised me, as it did have retail appeal. Plus, her mother's choice of color couldn't have been better. The dress is tied on the waist with a black scarf. Similar colored garments were seen in spring '10 collections of Derek Lam, Versace and Proenza Schouler. The silhouette is not really one that is seen on the Spring runways, but is associated more with the fading Fall '09. Since it's still a bit cold out, but the new fashion season is starting, it made sense to me to wear a fall garment with a hot spring color.... just to be ahead of the curve. Props to you Faith.

Faith also shows us two other colors that are in this season... black and white. Well, it's a no brainer that black and white are always on the scene to some degree, but a white is one of the featured colors of Spring. Faith features this color with her vintage purse. Another part of the outfit that's vintage is her boots. Boots are not a trend for spring, but since we are straddling the fence between the seasons, i'll let it slide ;). Faith finishes her relaxed look with her wavy hair relaxed on her shoulder. This style, paired with her cool colored dress is a winning combination for a relaxing day off.

When sitting and talking to Faith, I found out about her unusual fashion philosophy. "I like to be outdated," she told me. She justified that when dressing out of date, it gives you a look of originality. I really respected this idea. This showed me that when she does get dressed, it's not just a random bunch of clothes, but rather a well thought out idea. Just like everything else in life, all actions should be well thought of before executing.

You can find Faith's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions....

Dress: BCBG, Macy's, JCPenny
Scarf: American Apparel, Target
Boots: Charles David, Aldo, Nine West
Purse: Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Kooba

Well this concludes my first post that's transitioning towards the Spring season. Thank you so much to Faith, the latest "love ur LAbels" model for lending me your time... and a few pics ;). Keep on being original and keep on being gorgeous. As for the rest of you viewers, originality is key. Take the new trends and make them your own. Do this, and my fashion GPS will point me in your direction. I just hope I remember my camera...

Im Back...

Hello all! Hope all of you lovely people out there experienced an extremely blessed holiday season. Unfortunately, it's back to the grind of daily life for us. But not to worry, at least I'm here to bring you are newest "love ur LAbels" model.
It was the first day back to classes (have to admit, I was excited to be back) and I sat down at the front of the class like the dork that I am. In walks in a lovely classmate wearing a curious, unusual outfit.

Chava's outfit immediately put images in my head of Rick Owens Fall '09 runway... but with a bit more black. The skirt is truly the statement piece. It has a futuristic, space age look to it, but retains a simple silhouette. You know how I love fashion risks... and she wore this to class (get it girl).
One reason I love this outfit is that it looks runway fresh, yet some pieces of the look are from freelance designers at a local boutique she found among her travels. The skirt and necklace are from said boutique. Also, her Stella McCartney shoes are pretty awesome and compliment the outfit very well. The whole look is topped with a slightly high ponytail, giving a fierce and powerful look. The standards are slowly being raised to be featured here. I'm looking for trends, but risks will really catch my eye.

Isn't she gorgeous?

You can find Chava's look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Top: Kiki Riki, Ann Taylor, Michael Stars
Skirt: LnA, Victoria's Secret, Marc Jacobs
Necklace: Express, Banana Republic, Malene Birger
Sunglasses: Polo Ralph Lauren
Shoes: Stella McCartney, Neiman Marcus, Nine West
Tights: DKNY, everywhere
Watch: Dooney and Bourke, Dolce and Gabbana

I am truly blessed to be back in Los Angeles, my oasis in a life full of desert sand. I'm blessed to be surrounded with people that have an understanding of personal style and how to push the boundaries of the mundane.
A special thank you to Chava, our gorgeous model for being gracious enough to lend me her time to contribute to "love ur LAbels." Someday, I'm going to get maced in the eyes for asking someone for their picture, I just know it. That would be a little funny, once I get past the searing pain of course :)

Before I Return To La La Land...

Happy New Year to all! Hope all is well and you're not too hungover to return to your daily tasks. As you may know, I am currently home for the holidays in the scenic (so sarcastic) Toledo, Ohio. I was hoping that during my visit, I would at least find one person worth putting up on "love ur LAbels" and talking about such a rare desert rose in a city void of fashion... but SURPRISE!.... didn't find anybody. And considering I return back to LA in a few days, I resorted to photos of someone I knew very well and who I knew had at least a bit of fashion sense.... ME!....

This happened to be an all black day for me. I have to say, I really enjoyed all of the shocked faces from Toledo natives in response to my fashion choices throughout my stay.
The foundation of my outfit is a black V-neck sweater and Obey skinny jeans. My accessories are what really make my outfit shine. On my hands I have a pair of studded gloves and the medicine man watch from Dolce and Gabbana. Around my neck is a long chain, shield pendant necklace and a draped scarf. The whole outfit is topped off with my signature modified aviators.

You can find my look or similar ones in several places. Here are my suggestions...

Sweater: GAP, J-Crew, Neiman Marcus, Banana Republic
Jeans: Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters
Scarf: Foreign Exchange, Jigsaw, American Apparel
Gloves: Topshop, Metallica, ASOS
Belt Chain: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Necklace: Rogers and Hollands, King Baby, Chrome Hearts
Watch: Dolce and Gabbana
Sunglasses: Gucci

I very much appreciate all of you who read my blog, but I appreciate those who take risks in fashion even more. Remember, you may find yourself in a place where risks are frowned upon, such as I was. What should you do? Not care! Wear your best, take a risk, and ROCK IT OUT!
